We all are taught to follow the laws made by humans as our duty. We can’t even dare to break those laws, because the repercussions of breaking those laws are very high. Moreover, we all know that these laws are very important for both individual and collective safety. But just like human-made laws, there exist some mental laws that are equally important for us. A lot of our success, failure, happiness, sorrow, and problems depends on the way we implement these mental laws in our lives. These mental laws are followed by every successful person. Unfortunately, these mental laws are never taught in our schools and many people are unaware of these laws.

So, let’s look at the 10 mental laws that we should follow in our lives to make our lives better.

1. LAW OF ATTRACTION

We often think that why some people come into our lives and then they leave after some time. Sometimes we feel blessed to have some people whereas sometimes we curse our destiny for letting us meet some people. But the truth is the people who come in our lives are not just a matter of accident rather we attract them in our lives. According to the law of attraction, we are a living magnet. The situations, relationships, friends, and everything that we encountered in our lives are the result of our own thoughts. We attract people and situations in our lives that are consistent with our dominant thoughts. So if you think positively, you will attract positive people. You will meet the right people at the right time. This law works all around us. You must have witnessed that whenever you start working on a project, you start meeting the right people and you start getting ideas and assistance. Sometimes, you will never understand, how it happened, but it will happen. You act like a magnet that attracts the magnet fillings. And this is the reason that people who are clear about their objectives and goals, start attracting good things, situations, and people in their lives. Therefore, it’s very important that your dominant thoughts are positive and consistent with your goals. Once, you are clear with your goals, you will start witnessing the miracles of the law of attraction.

2. LAW OF EXPECTATION

According to the law of expectation, whatever you expect with confidence and belief, it will become a reality. In other words, whatever you get is the result of your expectation. Just like the law of attraction, the law of expectation also exerts an invisible and powerful influence due to which people and situations start working out in your favour. People who are successful have confidence and positive expectations from themselves, they expect themselves to be successful, happy, and cheerful. Whereas unsuccessful people have a negative attitude, they always have a cynical and pessimistic attitude due to which situation works exactly according to their expectations.

At the same time, the law of expectation also says that expectation that people have from us has a predominant role on our results. So if our friends expect us that we will do well in our exams then it’s likely that we will perform well. There are majorly four sources of expectation that have an impact on our results- the first is the expectations of our parents, the second is the expectations of our boss, the third is the expectation of our children and spouse and the fourth is the expectation that we have for our self. The expectations of these four sources can highly affect our results.

3. LAW OF CONTROL

Self- control is one of the things that we all like to have. Humans are born free and nobody wants to be in shackles. Therefore, the law of control says, we feel positive about ourselves to the degree to which we think we are in control of our life. And we will feel negative to the degree to which we think we are not in control of our lives. Also known as locus of control, the principle is very well recognized in philosophy and according to this the reason for our stress, anxiety, tension, and, mental illness is because of feeling out of control. For instance, if we feel that our life is controlled by our debts, our boss, or any bad relationships then we will suffer stress and anxiety. Therefore, it becomes very important to control our thoughts.

Brian Tracy in his book THE MAXIMUM ACHIEVEMENT says that there are two ways in which can control any unwanted situation, first, we can take action and do something to change it. And second, we can just simply walk away from the situation or the person causing us stress. Remember that without our permission, no one can control us. Many times, we can’t control the situations but we can control the way we respond to them

“NO ONE CAN MAKE YOU FEEL INFERIOR WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT.”

-Eleanor Roosevelt

4. LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT

You must have heard people saying, that everything happens for a reason. This is also exactly what the law of Cause and Effect says. Whatever happens with us is not because of any accident rather every situation that we face has a specific cause, every illness that we have has a specific reason, every happiness has a specific cause. If there is an effect in your life that you do dislike, then you need to trace back the cause and you can get rid of them. Likewise, if there is an effect that you like and you want it more then you need to trace back the cause.

This law works on the natural principle of sowing and reaping. So whatever you will sow, you will reap and whatever you are reaping today is the result of whatever you have sown in the past and whatever you want to reap in the future, you need to sow it today.

5. LAW OF BELIEF

According to the law of belief, our reality is what we believe. Whatever we believe with emotions and faith, it will become truth. For instance- if you believe that you will become successful then no matter what happens, nothing can stop you from becoming successful. Whereas if you believe that success is a matter of luck, destiny, or accident then you are never gonna taste success.

In the same way, your outlook towards the world shapes your attitude. If you are a person who has an optimistic and benevolent approach, you will see world as good place to live, and you will see the good in people and situations but at the same time if you have a pessimistic or malevolent outlook, then in every situation and in every person, you are going to see something negative.

“IF YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN DO A THING, OR IF YOU BELIEVE YOU CANNOT, IN EITHER CASE, YOU ARE RIGHT.

- HENRY FORD

6. LAW OF FORGIVENESS

There is a proverbial saying that “To err is human and to forgive is divine”. No matter how much someone loves us; they end up hurting us at some point in life even unintentionally. Forgiving them is a sign of kindness and maturity. But above that, forgiveness is a very selfish act. It’s selfish because when you forgive someone, you release negativity from your mind and body. You forgive for yourself and not for others so that you can move on. It sets us free. Holding grudges will only keep you trapped, in shackles. But when you forgive, you release your pain.

We often underestimate the power of forgiveness in restoring our mental peace. So, forgive even if the person is not sorry for his actions. Forgive your parents, forgive your children, forgive your friends, and forgive that stranger that spoiled your mood. And if you find difficulty in forgiving someone, then just think about one thing that the person who has hurt you has done for you. I am sure then you will find at least one reason to forgive that person.

7. LAW OF MENTAL EQUIVALENCY

Also, known as Law of Mind, Law of Mental Equivalency says that your thoughts objectify themselves i.e. consider your thoughts as a thing or as an object that has its own life. First, you have your thoughts and then your thoughts will have you. Whatever your thoughts are, your actions will be consistent with them, and eventually, you become what you think. Everything that happens with you starts with your thought. Therefore, you must use your mental powers to become a skilled thinker so that your thoughts serve your best interests all the time. So to change your life, you just have to change the way you think. Once you start thinking positively, you will attract positive situations and people in your life. You will feel more confident in yourself. And that’s why thinking in the right direction is the most fundamental characteristic of every successful woman and man on this earth. It’s important that outer life and inner life are consistent with each other.

So start controlling your thoughts before they control you. Remember, your mind can be a terrific servant but a terrible master. Think positively, everything else will follow.

8. LAW OF CORRESPONDENCE

One of the most important laws, the law of correspondence summarizes all the other laws. It says that our outer world is a reflection of the inner world. And since our outer world is the reflection of the inner world, you can tell what’s going inside you by looking at what’s going outside you. This law is explained in the BIBLE as “By their fruits, ye shall know them.”, i.e. everything in our life including our health, relationships, financial developments, and career corresponds to our inner world of thoughts, attitudes, preparation, and emotions. The way people respond and react toward us also reflects our attitude and behaviour towards them. If you want different results then you need to first change your internal world. Instead of changing others, you must change yourself first.

So in order to prosper your outer world, enrich your inner world.

‘’THE GREATEST REVOLUTION OF MY LIFE IS THE DISCOVERY THAT INDIVIDUALS CAN CHANGE THE OUTER ASPECTS OF THEIR LIVES BY CHANGING THE INNER ATTITUDES OF THEIR MIND.”

-WILLIAM JAMES

9. LAW OF GIVING

Life is all about giving that too giving unconditionally. But it’s very seldom that we implement this principle in our lives. We are living in very difficult times where no one gives anything for free and everything depends on reciprocity. We only give, when we know that it will be reciprocated. It may sound harsh, but the truth is everything we do for others is attached to the expectation of receiving it back. Just ask yourself, when was the last time that you helped someone just for the sake of helping them, without any expectation of receiving? And when we don’t receive things, we get frustrated, we think life is unfair. But life is not meant to be like that. The beauty is in giving and not in taking. Mother Teresa dedicated her entire life to the service of people, without expecting anything. She found joy and peace in ameliorating the pain of people.

NO ONE HAS EVER BECOME POOR BY GIVING

-ANNE FRANK

So, the next time you give your hand to someone, give it without expecting. Give because you are capable of giving. Give because you know there is joy in giving; there is happiness in the moment that you are giving and not in the expectation of reciprocation.

But let me tell you a secret. Our nature is full of miracles. If you immerse yourself in the service of humanity, then I am sure life is going to reward you. Because we reap what we sow. If you sow the seeds of humanity and kindness, you will definitely reap the fruits of humanity and kindness.

SO JUST KEEP GIVING AND SPREAD HAPPINESS

AND REMEMBER

“AS WE WORK TO CREATE LIGHT FOR OTHERS, WE NATURALLY LIGHT OUR OWN WAY”.

- MARY ANNE RADMACHER

10. LAW OF GRATITUDE

Every day we complain about a thousand of things that we don’t have, problems that we can’t control. Looking at our friends’ social media profile, we compare our lives with others and tell ourselves that everyone is fortunate than us. We torture ourselves by looking at others’ lives and counting the things that we don’t have. But, seldom do we express our gratitude to life for the things that we are blessed with. Always, remember that there will always be someone who will be less fortunate then you are.

The law of gratitude will help you in finding peace in the chaos and happiness in distress. Find out at least 10 minutes daily to practice gratitude. Practicing gratitude will send a signal to your mind telling how fortunate you are. It will give you the courage to fight. Therefore, no matter what happens in your life, never forget to practice gratitude.

If you want to achieve anything in life, if you want to become anything in life, then these 10 mental laws are fundamental for your success. All these laws are inter-connected. They work together and not in isolation. Understanding and following these laws can determine your success in every step of life. Further, they help you in taking mature and correct decisions. Almost all successful women and men follow these mental laws in their lives.

SO ENRICH YOUR INNER WORLD AND THE REST WILL FOLLOW.
